DK Castellucci Portfolio
D.K. Castellucci or Denise Castellucci has always had an affinity for art. When she was a young child she would sketch figures and caught the eye of a neighbor who was a French artist. He gave her a sketch book and her talent eventually lead to taking oil painting class. At age 10, she was painting landscapes.
As she entered Middle School and High School her attention turned to Drama and Vocal Arts. She participated in many productions and went on tour with the High School vocal choir. She continued pursuing Drama into her early adulthood. Early in her college career, she took Graphic Arts and Technical Design and worked for a college magazine where she wrote and did paste up layout before computers could do that.
In early adulthood, she began to work with computer operations, training, technical support, and telecommunications. Professionally, Denise is very well-rounded having worked in high tech, commercial real estate and financial data, and financial services.
When computers began to offer graphic arts, animation, and photo manipulation, D.K. eagerly taught herself how to create digital art. Denise collaborated with a inventive interactive television show on leased cable called, "21st Century Vaudeville" as animator and host. She became an award winning web designer earning recognition from her peers in 1998 being named one of "The Top 25 Most Influential Women on the Web." Not only did Denise research, write, curate stories for her websites, but she would create all the graphics and photography for them.
As Denise moved away from web design, she focused on writing and photography. She has been able to sell some of her photography and has a solid portfolio of photo work. Recently, Denise has returned to fine arts and painting with watercolors, inks, gouache, and collage.
Denise has a long history in supporting the notion of the importance of arts education throughout life. She is a product of a vigorous arts education and has found that creating and consuming the arts have enriched her life.
In 2018, Denise soft launched the Art Circle program, it was her to encourage people to create art and have the arts in their lives. Her belief is that the arts make us more human and have benefits in physical and mental health. The partnership with the Selfcare Studio is a natural fit because being able to sit and create art is just one of the major ways to practice self-care. Painting, drawing, doodling are all forms of meditation. This project was unable to really sustain itself, so it has been put on hold.
Denise also tried to be a circle guide for the Sitting Meditation Circle at the Selfcare studio where members practice selfcare by sitting and mindfully breathing. It did not quite catch on.
Denise has decided to concentrate on her own work in writing, painting, pastel arts, photography, and other projects. She is also finding new ways to promote and support Arts Education via supporting Marin School of the Arts. She also working on advocating for the Arts for All where we have wide spread arts education for all children, and support for the arts so when art students graduate they have a place to do their art.
